MEGAN BRINK

Lead Occupational Therapist

Megan received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2014 at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. She then went on and completed her Master’s which explored and described free time experience and substance use amongst youth who have dropped out of school. Megan is currently completing her PhD in mental health in youth.

Megan is board certified with the Council for Professional Allied with Medicine in Cayman Islands as well as the Health Professional Council of South Africa. Megan completed her community service year in a rural tertiary hospital in Northern Natal and spent most of the year in the pediatric ward where she was exposed to and experienced the surgical and rehabilitation of burns, snake bites, tendon and nerve injuries and orthopedic injuries. During this year Megan also developed the occupational therapy program in children psychiatry.

In 2017 Megan relocated to Johannesburg and was employed by a pediatric private practice where she gained experience working with various conditions including: autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and learning disabilities. Megan felt extremely passionate about working with children and assisting them to achieve optimal performance in all functional skills. She decided to open her own private pediatric practice in 2018 where she continued to work with these conditions and achieve her goal of working in the cultural diversity of South Africa.

Megan enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team and believes collaboration is vital amongst therapists, other health professionals, parents, families and teachers. Megan thrives on building interpersonal relationships with both the child and their families. Megan has facilitated school based and community-based training focusing on various skills to assist pre-school and school aged children in mainstream and specialist education.

Megan thoroughly enjoys research and expanding her continuing professional development through different training courses in evidence-based practice. Megan’s post graduate studies have focused on further developing her knowledge in sensory processing, hippotherapy, play therapy and DIR Floortime.
