Clinical Psychologist – Background in Neuropsychology

Dr. Laurence van Hanswijck de Jonge is a Dutch national born in Zurich, Switzerland and holds a Master’s degree in Developmental Neuropsychology from the University of Maastricht, Netherlands and a PhD in Psychology from Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland.

During her Master’s studies, Dr. Laurence was fortunate to be one of the first students to study a new discipline of psychology, “BioPsychology”, which combines the biological and psychological aspects of human development. During this time, she also had the opportunity to attend courses at the Pennsylvania State University, focused on neuropsychology, and the University of North Carolina, to work in a clinical setting with youths diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and severe conduct disorder. It was also during her Master’s degree that she had the honor to work on a project with Dr. Marti Korkman, the developer of the NEPSY (Developmental Neuropsychological Assessment), to standardize the NEPSY for the Dutch population. Additionally, she had the privilege to work in a Child Eating Disorder Clinic in London under Prof. Glenn Waller, and also on a collaborative project with the University of Pennsylvania.

After completing her studies, Dr. Laurence relocated to the Cayman Islands and worked for three years as the Medical Research Director with the Health Services Authority. A further family move took her to Geneva, Switzerland, where she joined the Child Development Unit of the University Hospital Geneva, focused on assessing the temperament in infants and neuropsychological functions in young children. Following this role, Dr. Laurence took the steps to set up her own private practice, providing services in mental health to children and youths.  She worked closely with the expansive network of international schools in the area, administering assessments, consulting, parental coaching, delivering workshops, and providing individual therapy. During this time, she delved deeper into Positive Psychology, through the understanding of the great scientifically proven benefits, and she co-founded “Positive Psychology Consulting” Switzerland.

Finally, her two beautiful boys are her greatest and most proud life work. They are her driving forces and inspiration.
